Convoy — A new start-up service based in Seattle that aims to connect freight companies with local trucking companies through an online service and app, today officially launched its on-demand service for regional and local trucking.
A press release from the company also announced $2.5 million in seed funding from a who’s who of investors.
They include Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos via Bezos Expeditions, Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff, eBay founder Pierre Omidyar via Omidyar Technology Ventures, KKR CEO Henry Kravis, Code.org founders Hadi and Ali Partovi, Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, Dropbox CEO Drew Houston and former Starbucks President Howard Behar.
“Nearly every business in this country relies on trucking, so Convoy’s benefits will be widely felt. It is a game changer for truck drivers and companies large and small,” Behar is quoted as saying.
Convoy which is being billed as the “Uber for trucking,” is headed by CEO Dan Lewis who formerly led a group that developed new products for Amazon. You can read more on this developing story over at Verge Magazine.
